Hand painted oil reproduction of Monet's Garden
Born in 1840, Claude Monet became one of the leading figures in the Impressionist style. As a young man Monet entered military service for two years, then he settled in Paris becoming friends with Pisarro, Manet, Renoir, Sisley and Bazille. Monet spent a brief period of time in London with Pissarro, returning in 1871 to Argenteuil, France where he began a serious exploration to capture the interplay of light, water and atmosphere in his paintings, eventually mastering the Impressionist technique for which he became famous. Although the first Impressionist show in 1874 was a financial failure, the art style has become well-loved by the public. Claude Monet moved to Giverny in 1883 where he spent many hours happily painting his lush garden. Monet died at Giverny in 1926.
